I lived in Japan for 6 years, and although my decision to leave was a difficult one, I have found myself missing the people, the culture and the language immensely. It was rather unexpected, especially how profoundly it has come to exert an influence over my psyche to this day. Currently I live in Spain, and for the past 8-10 weeks I've taken up studying and relearning Japanese seriously. There's a lot that I forgot about the language. I never obtained a high level of fluency in Japanese while I was there, due to work and time constraints and dealing with life in general, but I managed to get myself past an N5 'I can survive on my own' level.
