Watch Japanese TV

I'm making this post to hopefully provide some useful tips and resources for someone new to learning japanese and who's lost on where to start. I'll go with the order that worked for me, but there is no right or wrong way to learn Japanese, and if something works for you then do keep doing it. A lot of "sections" it helps to learn in parallel, so don't take this as a step-by-step guide, more of a reference. 1. Hiragana and Katakana The website tofugu.com is wonderful at teaching them, and this is definitely where I would start 2. I'm trying to find something for my mother to be able to watch TV here in the US. We currently pay for a satellite subscription for Japan TV but it costs $30/month for just one channel. Unfortunately she is terrible with computers so I was wondering if anyone in the US has luck streaming to something like a apple tv or roku? I've recently wanted to start watching sumo again, but I grew up watching it in Japan with their broadcast and commentary style. I'm now in the US and looking for a way to watch it with Japanese commentary. I've tried watching the NHK World "Grand Sumo" videos but it's not working out for me (the commentary and surrounding graphics, as well as the music, aren't to my taste). Any online rabbit hole I've explored also inevitably leads me back to NHK World. I can't stand it any longer. I'm just looking for a way to watch the matches for the upcoming Haru Basho with the Japanese commentary that is aired and used in Japan (preferably w/o subtitles).
