What are some of the best Japanese tv shows worth watching?

I don't live in Japan, but I spend about 3-4 weeks there every year for the past 10 years. Most of what ends up on YouTube being called "Japanese Game Show", is not in fact a Japanese Game show. They are usually shows in which a large group of comedians do outrageous physical comedy. Think Jackass.

Many of those shows tend to be "Specials" also. So when I go to Japan around New Years, the TV is filled with Comedy Specials around 10:00 every night. It's the same comedians, year after year, and a couple of months later it will show up on the tubes as a "Game Show", don't believe it.

Most of the time though, Japanese TV is just filled with standard Soap Opera style dramas, regular talk shows, news programs and Documentaries
