YoiTV Is A Good Option For My Monolingual Japanese Parents To Watch JTV In California

YoiTV - the free app, offers the service for watching Japanese TV live. It was primarily for my wife's monolingual Japanese parents to watch when they come to visit us at home in California.

Our Japanese is not good enough to comprehend Japanese programming without subtitles. Furthermore, my wife's parents are unlikely to return to the US given Covid pandemic. So while it is fun for the sake of nostalgia to watch Japanese programs on YoiTV. it would be great if it owns the subtitle. 

Luckily I found that there was one TV channel called AT-X which owns some anime with the subtitle. Perfect!

They offer a one-day trial. How to register: 

1. Use the activation code like 783031682 to register. Then set one password. 
2. The program will show an ID automatically in the LOGIN option. Use the password you set to login.

Free Resources for Learning Japanese - YoiTV App

I'm making this post to hopefully provide some useful tips and resources for someone new to learning japanese and who's lost on where to start. I'll go with the order that worked for me, but there is no right or wrong way to learn Japanese, and if something works for you then do keep doing it. A lot of "sections" it helps to learn in parallel, so don't take this as a step-by-step guide, more of a reference. 1. Hiragana and Katakana The website tofugu.com is wonderful at teaching them, and this is definitely where I would start 2. Grammar The best way I know of is this: https://guidetojapanese.org/learn/complete/ It does have a learning curve to it (it uses pretty complex kanji and assumes you know kana pretty well already), but it explains the material very clearly. 3.
